First curcular- 27th Congress of the Rei Cretaria Romanae Fautores -Belgrade, Serbia
from 19th to 26th September 2010 We have the honour to inform you that the National Museum in Belgrade, with the collaboration of the Institute of Archaeology, will organize the 27th Congress of the RCRF on the theme: Late Roman and Early Byzantine Pottery: the end or continuity of the Roman production? which will be held in the city of Belgrade (Serbia) from 19th to 26th September 2010. Participation is open to every scholar, not only members of the RCRF (max. 150, priority will be given to the RCRF members). Some assistance will be available for those who would otherwise be prevented from attending by financial difficulties. The congress sessions will be accompanied by visits to various archaeological sites and museums, including the Roman cities of Singidunum (Belgrade), Sirmium (Sremska Mitrovica), Viminacium (Kostolac) as well as the Belgrade City Museum, Museum of Srem, National Museum in Pozarevac. Hands on exhibitions of Roman pottery found in Serbia will be presented. There will be a post-congress two-day trip to Limes remains in the Iron Gates area (Djerdap), Archaeological Museum in Kladovo, Museum of Krajina in Negotin, National Museum in Zajecar and the Roman palace of Romuliana (Gamzigrad). Arrivals will be on Sunday (19th September) and for those participating in the post-congress tour departure will also be on Sunday (26th September, late afternoon). The length of lectures is restricted to 15 minutes and only a limited number can be presented, therefore we kindly ask you to prepare a poster whenever possible. We invite you to offer papers in conformity with the theme of congress although papers on other topics will be accepted. The congress languages will be English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Lectures will take place in the National Museum. The auditorium will be furnished with slide projectors, overhead projection and PowerPoint. Participants are kindly encouraged to use PowerPoint presentations. The congress fee, which is expected to be around EUR 250, does not cover accommodation, but the organizers will offer to participants suitable tourist information so they can book hotels. This will be available on the web site of the Congress from November. Belgrade can be easily reached by airplane.
